It’s That Da*n Ring Again! (a.k.a “funny world” posting)

Okay, if you can turn your heads backwards and remember the posting I did regarding a gold rhino ring...

Well, that ring made an appearance on television last week. It was worn by the winner of our current/most recent television guilty pleasure: “Fashion Star“. (The odds are good that if you have no idea what the show is all about, you won’t care. In which case, feel free to discontinue reading and click to Pinterest). Anyway, the winner of the Season One design competition was a lovely Kara Laricks of New York. I actually met Kara in the fall when she was at the Market NYC  (the one in my blog posting).. wearing said rhino ring. Not being sure how many people look just like her, my fact checking is really based on the fact she wore the coveted ring when she won! (hey… whatever it takes, right?)

Go figure. It is a small funny world at times! Now… back to that ring….

” Wouldn’t ya like to get away…? “

Question: What’s odder than a California guy packing up and moving to the East Coat?

Answer: Coming back to California as a vacationing guest.

Yup: A Guest. As i am no longer a resident of Orange County, when I come to stay for the weekend (as i recently did), I am a vacationing guest. In short, I am the kind of person I used to avoid: the casual visitor  drawn to the area to relax near the beach and poke along the stretches of the fair coast. It’s true. Stunningly true.

How did this come to be?

Well, I had the pleasure of witnessing the Fabulous Denise marry the Wonderful Joe at an intimate surf-side wedding in sun bedazzled Laguna Beach recently.  Thus, having been ensconced in the groovy Riviera Suite at the wonderful La Casa del Camino (aptly named after Riviera Magazine), I spent the weekend lazing around my “art gallery with a bed”, poking around the quaintness that is Laguna Beach …. and reminiscing.

Yes, reminising. For you see, when you come back to the places that played such a role in your life, it really became an exercise of trying not to say “Remember when..” as much as anything else. As in’ “Remember when we used to come down here and get drunk on the beach?”, or  ”remember when I was 7 and we had to eat lunch in the car by the Greeter because it rained?”. Things like that. Not in a sad way – not at all. Moreso in a “Funny how life happens” way.

Funny, how Life DOES happen like that?

Stuff I Like: Union Jack Accent Furniture!

So, here’s the deal..

Remember when I mentioned how my charming 1940s Cape Cod Cottage was entirely void of closet space? Well, my “work around”  for this situation was really quite simple: I commandeered a bedroom and repurposed it as a closet/dressing room/morning room. It was a fairly easy go do and required nothing more than an order to an online retail garment rack company and a clever placement of furniture. (Translation: that isn’t a tv cabinet, it is now a large wardrobe and dresser!).

Anyway, I digress.

| This interior served as my inspiration! |

After hanging more than a few photographs on the walls during “Operation Room Imperialism”, I came across the above interior and decided what this room REALLY cried out for was a large piece of furniture or an accent piece…. styled like a Union Jack . As everyone knows, the minute you actually want something it goes missing. So, of course, I have yet to actually find the perfect piece. Funny how that works. In the meantime, I picked up a clever Union Jack pillow from my friends at Lillian August to tide me over. The hunt, however, goes on.

That having been said, the search has amused Hal and I on our few weekends together lately (Have I mentioned I have been traveling a lot this year?). We have traversed the Greater Fairfield County area. We have gone to more than a few Manhattan shops. Nothing has said “IT”. Nothing! My England inspired fantasy remains, well, jacked.

Needless to say.. a DIY post may VERY well be in my future. Perhaps?
